48re converter in 47re ??

The 48re converter will go in place fo the 47RE but not the other way around. The 48re has a little lip seal in it that the 47 does not have.

A lot of the aftermarket converter manufactures will machine the converter so that it will work with either trans. Saves on the number of part numbers they have to stock. For a stock converter, though, as others have said a 48 converter will work just fine in a 47, but not the other way around.

Pretty sure it will work either way, but... the 48RE stator has a sealing ring that matched with the 48RE converter greatly improves lock up sealing. Put the 48 converter with a 47 stator, you loose this upgrade, but it will work. Put a 47 converter on a 48 stator and there is nothing for the ring to seal against and again, you loose this upgrade. Go for the 48RE converter and swap in a 48RE stator with it!

Do most aftermarket 47re converters like dtt or such have the stepped hub in the converter like the 48re converters have? If so, that means that alot of people could just swap in a 48re stator to get that seal ring.
