48RE cracked cooler line inlet - how to fix?

Buddy of mine was installing an after market tranny cooler and cracked the inlet (may be outlet, not sure) when tightening in the fitting. Any idea for an easy fix? ...see photos

Pardon my ignorance, but does a guy need to be worried about the metal shavings from doing the tapping or can you just leave the tranny in the truck fully assembled?

I don't know if a guy needs to be worried about it or not, but my buddy got one of these and just tapped it out with the tranny still in the truck. ...you do need the special tap that comes with the kit...or else modify a 1/4" NPT tap...
