Talked to a guy last night.....his trans shifts 1-2-3 by 10 mph then shifts to 4th at about 45 like normal.
What causes that ?
I didn't know what to tell him.
 
mine shifted too fast when i had the wrong resistor in. the voltage was either too high or too low causing it to shift fast.

once i put in the right resistors, the problem was fixed.
 
you should tell him to call " Thee " Jeff Garmon and his problems will be resolved :-)
 
is the tranny completely stock or has it been modified at all? The reason i ask is because i had a 47re that i put a transgo shift kit in and had the same probelm, it would shift 1,2,3 within the first 15mph and then would shift into 4th at normal speeds. The shift kit only came with springs that increased the line pressure and no springs that changed the shift points. I had different springs put into to correct the shift points and the problem was solved. I am by no means a tranny expert and someone with better expertise maybe able to explain better to you.

48re stacked shifts is caused by governor pressure most of the time. he can check gov pressure with a gauge in the rear port on the right side of the trans, the pressure should follow road speed until third gear. if he sees pressure come up to quick the trans will shift to quick. the problem is most likely the gov solenoid. this problem can also come from a bad gov pressure sensor, thus causing the computer to command to much pressure.
A throttle pressure cable or TV actuator on 05 and newer trucks can also cause early shifts but this problem will be more evident the heavier on the throttle he is.

i would like to know the answer to this question as because my 47re which was built by a reputable suncoast dealer near me, shifts 1-2-3 by 15 mph and 2nd hits hard but 3rd you can hardly feel. the truck shifts into and 4th hard but early unless i accelerate quicker then its 40-45. but i don't have a tps...maybe that has something to do with it. but my tv cable is probably out of adjustment as well.
