I'd look at the CAD and see if its not locking the front axle in 4x4.

02 shouldn't have a cad which is why I asked.

Center axle disconnect, it's a vacuum diaphragm that locks the long side axle together, an 02 shouldn't have one.

Check for vacuum leak also someone may have put the vacuum lines on backwards so try switching them.

My 02 is a CAD front axel. Usually the vacume lines rot and leak either under the hood or at the diaphram. Or the steel lines on the frame rail rust and leak or the diaphram itself rust through. Any leak and it will not work.

Or you could just install this and be done with it!

This is also nice if you have a manual truck and back-up a heavy trailer. You can put the transfer case in low, but not engauge the cable so the axel stays disconnected and you have 2wd low range. No more riding the clutch! DONE!

Probably a leaky vacuum line to the CAD. My '02 also has a CAD. The two wheel drive low is a great option. It is one of the best things I've done to my truck. Just put a solenoid valve in one of the lines to keep it locked out. Pretty simple and costs about $45 unless you can find a valve for free. :D

Switch on the right operates it.

I 2nd the 2wheel low. I had an southbend FE clutch, and it was very handy.

The first time I hauled cattle after I put in my southbend (only a little OFE) and jumped backward uphill and slammed the chute.....that got installed the next day. Absolutely love being able to creep it under full load and not ride the clutch.

I figured you would have at least used some good lookin switches.

That's weird, the 02's I've looked at had the solid front and I've seen a couple late 01's without the cad as well.

I wonder what happened to the op?

Several have argued that on here before that an 02 didn't have one. They are around. I have yet to figure out why some do and some don't. I think mine was assembled aug 2001 makin' it an early model '02 I'm guessing. I don't remember the door sticker date exactly.

Whats really interesting is that the op never came back and said whether or not his has a cad.

Maybe he figured it out. Either way, I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. I've still got the stock clutch in my truck after 200k. Backing into the barn a couple weeks ago with a 9k pound trailer of hay, I wish I woulda had this. I slipped my clutch to get it over the ledge and the smoke was a rollin. Doesn't help that I burnt it last year at the county's charity pull.
