i think its got something to do with the central axle disconnect cause i can shift the tcase in to 4lo and its in low range... but the front axle isnt pulling. checked the plug on the central axle disconnect and it looked a bit corroded.. cleaned it and still nothing. checked the vac lines at the diff and tcase and both are connected. any idea's?

Do You Have Vacum Going To Acuator On Frt Drive If Yes Acuator Is Bad This Happend To My Truck The First Snow Storm

check the connections at the trans crossmember where they go from hard lines to the flexible plastic ones that go to the t case. the plug on the front end (electrical one) is just for the indicator light on the dash. if you have a big enough vacuum leak anywhere, the 4wd won't work. i use to lose mine sometimes and it was always the lines had seperated on the trans crossmember.

like i stated... i already checked the vacume lines. they are still connected good and not leaking. im going to take the actuator out tomorrow and see if its stuck.

I have seen several actuator's fail either by sticking or bad vacuum pots. I would check for good strong vacuum on each line of the actuator while you shift the TC lever. IIRC, vacuum on black is 4x4, and vacuum on red is 2wd. Maybe this will help. Jeremy.

You checked the lines, but did you actually check for vacuum?

In 2wd vacuum will be applied to one side of the vacuum actuator and in 4x4 it will be applied to the other.

Actuators can go bad for a few different reasons, I wouldn't rule it out.

EDIT: Putting a posi lock on it is the lazy man's way out IMHO, although it might be cheaper than a new actuator, depending on where you get it from.

yes i checked for vacuum. thats why is said i checked em. its not my truck if he wants to buy a posi lock its his money and truck. but i know the actuator from o' reilly auto is $100, probably cheaper if i order it through the shop. and i havent called the stealership yet.

You never said you checked for vacuum, you implied you looked at the lines and they were all there.

Don't bother calling the dealership for the actuator. Last time I got a quote from our local one they wanted something like $260 for it.

He can put a posi lock on it if he wants, I just tire of seeing people who can't figure out a relatively simple system remove it because they don't understand it and proceed to complain to everyone about what a POS system it is. That may not be the case here, but I've seen a ton of threads just like this over the years of cruising the forums that end that way.

i wasnt saying it was a pos system. i was just asking for other suggestions. and if the actuator could be the problem.

i dunno. im not pissing with it anymore my little brother is a dick so i told him to phuck off and fix it himself. haha. good luck. stupid little bastard doesnt know his ass from a hole in the ground.

check vaccum lines, one of mine were cracked and that pod ontop of transfer case was shot. i spent 25 bucks in parts. start with the cheap stuff first. thats what i would reccomend.

another thing to check.... look at the linkage where the shifter connects under the truck.... we had one that would not go into 4x4 no matter what we did. We chased EVERYTHING ... from slapping it out of 4H on the dragstrip it had move the nut about a 1/4" and it was enough to keep it from engaging....

Had this problem on a jeep matter a fact.

REason I said to check HVAC and cruise is because thats all that is vacuum operated on these trucks. (HVAC, Cruise, and 4x4) I know this because I reciently lost all four of them. The line came off right at the pump when I removed the VP couple weeks ago. Hooked the line up and all is good.
