The local pulling club is considering trying to shoe horn a 5.9 12valve into our pulling sled to replace the 292 gas. According to Cumminsdieselspecs.com, the 12v was 40 inches long. I'm wondering exactly what this measures. Flywheel to fan? Something else? We have roughly 43 inches to work with without getting into major modifications. We won't need a bell housing, and this engine won't have a fan either because the radiator will be mounted on the other side. Can someone tell me exactly what I'm looking at? Thanks,

We're not opposed to a 4BT, but they seem to be pricier than the 5.9s, so we may be forced that way just because of economics. No doubt the 4BT would be a much easier fit though.

Deutz would be the way to go...No cooling system...That is what Hager uses on all the Old Ironsides sleds...

True, the problem is finding one of those affordable without a million hours. Plus the F6L913 he and all the other sled builders use is dimensionally larger than the 5.9 which creates problems for us too.
We've about decided just to put a 4BT in it because of the limited space we have.
