whats up guys. have a buddy here in town, we just done a 5-speed swap on his 01. got everything swapped out having some running issues. on the wiring end of things we used a tranny harness from a 02 5-speed so nothing has been cut but it still has the auto ecm. truck runs like it is 1/2 power, will only run up to 2000 rpms down the road. the tranny hot light is on and we think it has something to do with it. as he said when the auto would get hot would do the same thing. will changing back to the auto harness and cutting the plug off and wiring up the neutral safety and backup lights fix this?. any ideas thanks.

When I did my swap on my 01, I kept the wiring, ecm, and pcm from the auto. The only real change I did was I cut the plug and ground the neutral safety wire, and wired up the reverse lights.

Jump the tranny temp sensor, it's thinking the tranny is to hot and going into limp mode.

Jump as in wiring in a resistor between two of the wires or just take two of the wires and simply twist them together? What resistor if needed and what wires on the plug?:rockwoot:

There should only be two wores on the plug, as for what resistor? I have no clue, easiest way would likely be to ohm out one on a cold truck.

i posted in the other thread, dont know if you saw it.

you need to get the resistance value at operating temp. too hot=limp too cold=no overdrive/lock up

there is no temp sender guys we put a five speed harness on it. the 24v trucks have a split harness (motor comes apart from the tranny) so you dont have all the wires hanging down.

The trans temp light is in the PCM on the firewall. Maybe try plugging in the sensor that the truck came with? Just a thought there, I'm not for sure about that part. blu_by_u followed this reply worked like a charm.

so he now has a 5-speed and not a cut wire anywhere.

I think you problem is that you have an auto ecm/pcm with a 5 speed wiring harness. The ecm is looking for sensors that aren't hooked up. You will need to get a ecm flash.

You either need to put a 5 speed PCM in it or find a way to ground the neutral safety. If the PCM cannot read the speed sensors on the auto it puts it in limp mode and will not pull above 2000rpm. When i did mine in my 01 I wired the neutral safety wire to the switch on the clutch and noticed when the clutch was in the truck would rev fine. When i released the clutch it ran like crap and had no power. Grounded out the neutral safety permanetly and problem was solved.

yeah thats what we did i posted it up in another thread were there was similar issues. and it cured all of it.

Good deal, glad it worked!
