53 block?

Hey guys just a question what years all had the 53 block. A buddy is looking at a 02 cummins and i thought it was just the earlier 24 valves that had them. thanks

An '02 could have a #53 but most likely won't. The latest I've ever seen one in was a 2000.

Thin/weak block casting near the water jacket and prone to cracking.

Look on the block for a casting number. It will be a big 53. 'Usually' located drivers side, front, right above the oil pan mounting surface. They have been seen on the passenger side and towards the backside of the block so, it all depends.
