so i did a head gasket on truck today an put some 5k springs in the pump an now when you start the truck, it revs up like its floored. will not idle. any ideas?
My first 5k did this. No matter where I set them they didn't work. I have video of it I can post. I ended up pulling them and installing a CDS 5k and didn't have any further problems. Make sure they are adjusted properly and check idle like already mentioned.
My CDS 5ks are easy to work with. Between one to 5 clicks I have had no problems but you do need to adjust the idle down with more clicks and up with less clicks.
these are cds springs i have. we played with the clicks on them today. and it just won't idle right. we got it to finally idle in gear but when you put it back in park it would rev to 2k. so i ended up putting the 4k's back in. we called cds an they said the pumped needs to be benched for them to work right. thanks for the help though guys!
I'e never had an issue with any spring set, but I always use calipers. This last 5k went perfect on the first try. Once with a set of 4k's, I did get the high rev like you are talking about, they were binding. Just something to check.
Thought of something else, we have discussed this in the past and the opinion is that if a pump has been benched tuned with 4K's that 5k's won't work and it needs to go back to the bench, case in point my 215 pump.
My pump was benched with factory governor springs and when I recieved it I installed the 5ks and have no issues like you speak off. I'm sure CDS discussed with you that there is only one top and one bottom of the springs?
Also, if I recall, Seth @ DPE indicated 215 pumps are more sensitive to this issue due to change in idle rack position when benching a pump. Something to the tune of when you have the pump benched and the barrels turned the idle position is around 4mm vs 7mm (not exactly sure on the numbers) and the governor has a harder time controlling the rack at such little travel forward. Perhaps he will chime in.
edit: Here is the post where Seth discusses this issue.
