So i dropped my trans and took it in to have it rebuilt ( 3rd gear syncro was getting warn) i had the rebuilt kit. So i took it to them to do the rebuild and the trans guy said something about the 5th gear nut and gear getting a lil lose or something along those lines. I have heard about welding it or something like that. he wanted to put in a new updated mainshaft in and new gear and nut but like wanted $600 for it. I really dont want to go that route id like to just weld it if possible, he needs answer by sometime tommorrow so anyone who has info on this subject and pictures if possible? All help will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Just get the upgraded nut, you don't really need the shaft if you dont wana spend the money.

I had the upgraded nut and it too backed off! I tack welded mine on (about 1/4 inch tack welds on either sid of the nut and shaft). I wouldn't weld it real good....Ya mite need to take it back apart some time!

So after some research Some people have sid thst welding i causes heat stress to the shaft and might downt the road break it do to the heat from welding? Has anyone ever had this happen?

I put three small mig welds on mine. It's holding just fine, I've hauled trailers and sled pulled with it several times with no issues. I can find alot better use for $600!

I've gone through 3 of those nuts already! I'd get the style with the shoulders on it and bend the shoulder into the slot on the shaft.. Seems to hold decently.. And for extra comfort, put a small tack on it

ya i put the upgraded nut on and im planning on tacking it, are you guys tacking the nut to the shaft or the gear?

I welded one for a customer and he hauled a backhoe the next day and the shaft broke right at the tack. An update shaft, non-billet of course is only about $200.00 atleast for the last one I bought.

600 is aweful high for those things anyway.. i paid like 150 for the one in my transmission.
