6.4L Powerstroke, possible sledpulling issues?

I have noticed a couple threads mentioning some 6.4 Powerstrokes have started pulling at the local fairs(i.e. non-points events) and it made me wonder something. If a 6.4 owner wanted to pull in a DHRA event with a totally stock truck, would he be able to pull in the stock class even though they have a "twin turbo" truck? Or would they have to pull in whatever class twins were able to run in? This is a hypothetical question, but made me wonder if the techs wanted to be jerks about it, what would the outcome be?

This should be an interesting discussion...:pop:

I would think that since the truck is stock it should be able to run in the stock class

I would too, since the rule states " a stock appearing charger" and since we all know the Ford "twin" was more of a marketing hype anyway, you can do just as good or better with a single of the same size. I imagine its just how you read the rules, I don't see it being an issue, but with some of the issues at pulls people have reported its only a matter of time till it happens once.

Since they came from the factory that way, they should be able to pull in the stock class. But if they removed the stock "twin turbos" and replaced them with larger aftermarket turbos, then no. But I don't see anybody doing that in the near future anytime soon, especially with a $50k truck...

TooMuchBoost--Nice avatar, I have a T-shirt that says that, and its true..LOL

I've seen a few brand new trucks with twins, but that is apples to oranges, those trucks got to leave the cab on during the install. Is there even room under those hoods for an aftermarket set of turbos?

It sure would be a tight fit. The way the trucks sit now stock there is hardly any room under the hood.

The 6.4 in stock appearing form is legal in DHRA WS. Gene brought this up over a year ago when the first rumors of the 6.4 Twin Turbo where leaked.

I have actually seen one pull at a DHRA pull. Not bad but not great either. But tuning is still very limited. Time will tell but I not going to hold my breath.

BWD mentioned somthing on another site that they would be willing to play with one if somebody donated their truck for "research" IIRC

I don't think the 6.4 is any threat to the DMAX dominated class. The complexity of the emissions systems haven't really been cracked yet. A stock 6.4 isn't that impressive unless its a F450 with 4.88's, but don't expect it to make 8k lbs. either.
