I have got 2 Dodge Cummins. One is a 96 with an automatic and the 2nd is 2000 with a 6-speed. Both trucks are 4 wheels drive. I am wanting to begin to build the 96 into a puller. I was going to build the 24 valve I to a puller but I think it's just too much work to swap a 12 valve into it.

My question is what do I need to swap the transmissions between the two trucks. I am guessing I will need a ECM from a 24 valve with an automatic and possibly a wiring harness? The 6-speed should swap in fine into the 12 valve, correct?

the 6 speed will go right in the 12v. the auto from the 96 should be a 47re...which you will have to use the electronics and computer out of a truck with the same configuration. or, you can purchase an aftermarket stand-a-lone valve body and computer to set up the trans and run it that way. if you are going for performance with the 2000 truck, this is the route i would go. this way you have the ability to set your shift points as desired. another option is to run just a straight manual shift valve body. however, it isnt the most "street-able" solution
