'96 7.3, multiple issues

Working on a rig for a buddy of mine, 7.3 with auto trans, bone stock except the straight pipe. No check engine light. It was running low on power and would randomly shut off. We changed the fuel filter, fixed the low power issue but it still randomly shuts off. He got some idea in his head it was the cam position sensor and changed it, now it barely starts (when it does at all) and when it does it has a huge lope, like a 500 rpm swing. I'm stumped, anyone have any ideas?

Hook up a scanner to it and go from there.

hook up the scaner is the best way to go and make sure yur map sensore is the gray one, and also yur baro sensore is still good or chang it.

i haven't had any luck with any cam sensor except one's from the factory. the chepo's at auto parts stores are junk.

^this. The updated CMP from the stealership is only like $15. If that doesnt take care of it when need some data from a scanner.
