I have a question on the type of block I got.
It has a casting #6 on both sides of it.
It also has 2 drain locations. Is it a good block? just not sure on the type it is.
Everything else on it looks great. Can still see the cross hatching in each cylinder so thats a plus:rockwoot:
TIA

I'm pretty sure there not aftermarket. But hell I'm not sure. Motor came out of a 98 12v. Problem is I dont have the gear cover to get the engine #'s off of.

For me it looks like International casting .

Have You removed front gear cover? Behind it is infomation where it is made.

The front cover is off and the numbers are raised. I've Looked for the IH symbol all over and couldnt find it in the obvious places. Where on the front would I find any more info. I do not have the front cover or gear housing.

Well found some more info:
Above the crank is the symbol(<>) IH I believe
Below the cam it says
USA
23456
NWE
What all does that mean? I've heard of storm blocks and mexican blocks.
So I guess my block is niether one.

Any spot exactly? The cam is still in and I'm not gonna pull it till I get some dowel rods to hold the tappets in. I might be able to get the a pic of the
U.S.A
23456
nwE and the IH symble

The upper numbers are the same as mine but the lower is a 5. I know this is the original motor for my truck.

if you can look in behind the cam you should be able to see the IH symbol if it is indeed a harvester block. Hard to see but with a good little flash light you can see in there no problem.

aint all blocks after the 98 model year stom (straight, thread, o-ring, metric) and some real late 97 they all have the dual drain. most 98-00 ive ever seen are 53's so youve got a good one in my mind.

Yes there is the IH symbol. So that means its a harvester block? I take it harvester blocks are the good ones? I'll snap a pic of the symbol to confirm my findings.
