I ordered the kit from TST to tab the killer dowel pin on my 98.5, if it existed. I had heard both stories about the 24v cover, and decided it would be worth the $50 for my peace of mind. My timing cover is the old style that does not block the KDP, the previous owner had not tabbed it, and it was stuck out about 1/16". The directions with the TST kit were awesome. They left nothing to the imagination. It only took about 2 hours to do the whole thing, and I was working slowly. I pulled the radiator, for other reasons, and there was tons of room to work. The only thing I wondered about was if I should have used some blue Loc-Tite on the balancer bolts. If you are worried about yours, don't hesitate! Do it today!

what exactly is the dowel pin ????? i have heard about it but no nothing:redx:

A dowel pin is a round pin that is used to line the timing case up properly on the engine block. On the 12 and early 24 valve engines the dowel pin can vibrate out of it's hole and fall harmlessly into the oil pan, or go between the timing gear and case, breaking the case.
