First problem I have with my a/c is that it will only blow out the defrost vents in the dash no matter what setting the knob is on. Secondly, it doesn't blow cold but the stuff in the system is full. Could that be a problem with the a/c evaporator core?

Sounds like a vacuum diverter problem to me. You either got a vacuum leak or the flapper thingy is stuck.

Is the compressor turning on, or cycling? I'm gonna say it's either a high pressure or low pressure switch, the compressor clutch, a/c clutch relay or it's not really full. You can't check pressure if the compressor is not running.

You have a vacuum leak.

The vacuum hose starts in between the powersteering pump and front of the block,, trace it around. it usually gets disconnected up around the firewall. It's a 1/8" plastic hose.

I think the compressor is having problems because I can hear the clutch engage and disengage. I know this doesn't effect the vent problem but it does effect wether or not it will blow cold right? Thanks for the vacuum leak suggestion I'll check it out asap.

The compressor clutch should almost not disengage when the truck is idling. If it is cycling then chances are the system is low.

Well thats what I thought but I bought a refill canister from the local auto parts store and it says it's full when I hook it up

This would'nt bother me much I rarely use my a/c but it seems like it's gettin hotter every year and this year I think I'm ready to start using it lol. Normally I just put the windows down

Take it to a A/C shop, could be a number of things.

Compressor, clutch, press switch, blend door.

You should be able to get a diagnosis for $30 or $40... I'm gonna bet it's just low on freon...

Ok so I found a vacuum line that had been disconnected and reconnected it but it still only blows out the defrost vents. I hope this does'nt mean the problems behind the dash somewhere. If it's the switch that's managable but I'm not pullin my dash off again, it's $500 new.
