Ok previously when pulling in years past i have ran 3rd 4 low (NV4500), now i need to try 4th 4 low because when i hooked at Franklin, IN (S&R diesel concepts pull) i definately had too much power for 3rd 4 low and cleaned up way too much and didn't have the wheelspin i needed. I ran worn out 33x12.50 Wild Country RVT's on 10" wide rim. I have around 500 RWHP, and 1100 RWTQ (needs dyno'd again) i have upped the power alot since last time i pulled and changed from 3.54 gears to 4.10's.

I used to pull in work stock now i pull in super street or 2.5/2.6 whatever. Running a 62mm Schwitzer charger.
I'm looking to get some tires to pull with, but i'm not sure what to get. The truck rides on 40" swampers now so i can clear anything i need to. The clutch is a Haisley street/drag 6 button dual disc, seems to be ok with the sled (well in 3rd 4low with no tread lol) Truck is a daily driver so i prefer not to break it. I'm told 4th is strongest gear in these trannys so i'm glad if i can use that gear. I've broken every other foward gear in this thing except 1st many times! LOL... So im not sure 33's or 35's what tread pattern and amount of tread, etc etc. i want good traction but also good wheelspin (much safer that way IMHO). The truck is currently running single rear wheel setup but when the right time comes it will be a dually so keep that in mind. I pull with axle blocks and don't quite have ladder bars yet but where they are allowed I wrap chain and boomer around the pumpkin back to the receiver hitch, same effect just really redneck but HEY IT WORKS!!! LOL.. try not to laugh ok? I'm on zero budget just doin what i can..... I don't want to pull at every chance i get but I like to hook a few times a year for fun.

So, tire suggestions and gear selection suggestions?
Thanks!
Eric

Im looking at getting some 35x12.5 Courser CT's. Just enough tread to give some good grip but not too much to break anything (hopefully!) Plus they are a good DD tire!

Ive always heard 3rd 4hi was the best pulling gear!

Hope your doing fine after all the floods!

Oh and in building myself a set of traction bars. When I get done I bet Ill have less than 100 bucks in them!

The gear choices go 3rd low, 2nd high, 4th low. in the NV4500. I wouldn't go 4th low unless you have a loose track, it will bog on a hard track. I would run 2nd high on tight or hard pack tracks, 4th low on loose or muddy tracks. I prefer BFG A/T for my rig, they hook great & wear nicely. The video in my sig was 2nd high with BFG A/T 33/12.50/16.5 tires held at 3200 rpm due to stock springs.

I was just wondering since we call those two "The Hood Stack Mafia"......

Jeff, 3rd high are you kidding me? LOL 3rd high IS FOR MUD, BUD!!!!!!!! Woot!! LOL

I have no problem building my bars i just haven't got around to it yet lol.. its either lack of time or lack of money. Usually both! and i don't have any pattern to go off of either :(

Diva, LOL yes you can answer. I'm letting Jeff be president of this deal since its too much responsibility for me :kick:

Cummins724, thanks, what rear end gears do you have? Great hook BTW :rockwoot:

What about 35x12.50x16 BFG M/T's 85% tread on 16x10 wheels?

Thanks
Eric

Thanks, I have 4:10 gears. The M/T are pretty aggressive, but a good tire. Just don't try grabbing a big gear on a tight track & you'll be fine.

4th low on a nv4500 is a direct ratio gear and takes some big power and 500hp is not nearly enough unless you get on a real loose track. I would try 2nd high and see how that goes. The Haisley strret drag is really supposed to be used for sled pulling so if you have to slip the clutch for a long time you will be buying another one.

Yea I used to have those BFG M/T 35x12.50's on this truck but never sled pulled it with 'em. I was very impressed with 'em for everything else i use the truck for though.

Kman,
Yea I know but when i got it i didn't have any intentions of pulling anymore, so it fit the bill perfect. I destroyed a Con FE within 20k miles and broke two 1 1/4" inputs in that time with that clutch also. I got a heck of a deal on this clutch and its taken everything i throw at it!!! But there will come a day when it will need replaced lol

Here's a vid of my hook so you can see about where I stand right now... It blows more smoke than that at full boost goin down the road empty... I was around 200# shy of the weight limit also. The tires had 10% tread, ran like 45# in back and like 25# up front...

And yea they made me run as an exhibition pull for the hook stack :rules: I brought a downpipe but they wanted it to the back of the cab so i'll be more prepared next time i guess huh..

Ok I will try 2nd 4 high. Plan on pulling at Tampico, IN Grassy Fork VFD pull this next weekend!!!!!!

Advice on the tires??? I have a guy wanting to trade me 35x12.50 BFG M/T's, or if i sell my tires outright, i'd be looking at 33x12.50 TRXUS STS's.
I'm sure the TRXUS STS's are a good choice if everyone else is using them. But what about 35x12.50 BFG M/T's? Too tall? Too aggressive?
Thanks
Eric

what about me nv5600 and 373 gears i was thincking 4 4 low :poke:

Yeah 4th low is what I usually pull in. On looser tracks I go with 2nd high but I pull alot more rpms with 4th low so end up getting more wheel speed.

see i hurd of sum duds going with 5 4low ? i dodn thinck i have the power or wheel speed for this gear

on a loose track you might have the power for 5th low but it takes alot of clutch slippage and takes alot of life out of the clutch. Also 2nd high is another choice I would go with also. With my old tires 2nd high I could do with these truxus they really suck the power out.

No hood stacks at Tampico. I have other exhaust i can and will put on. Kinda a stupid rule i think, but hey rules are rules right? :rules:

Yea i want a good tire to drive on but that has good traction but not too much traction at the sled ya know? i like slippage in good proportion!!! I like my drive train and clutch intact!!!

Anybody know anything about BFG M/T's??????? 35's too big?
