1996 2500 4x4 Cummins Automatic...

Setting at Taco Bell on Friday in the drive-thru I lean over to pull my wallet out of my pocket and push down on the brake pedal, it goes almost to the floor and the ABS and BRAKE lights come on, brakes are really spongy and if I pump them 3 or 4 times they will be normal for about 5 or 6 seconds BUT I will lose vaccum to my blend doors in the dash and kicks to the defroster, after letting it set a few seconds it will revert back to normal operation as I lose brake pressure. Truck still stops it just takes ALOT more pedal and effort to stop it. I have vaccum assist still, almost like too much assist now...

BUT...

Going to the airport this morning my blend doors quit working, I can't even get anything to come out of the defroster (which is the default setting when losing vaccum on a Dodge truck). You can hear the fan laboring as if all the vents are plugged off (doors closed)...

WTF is the deal with this thing?

My guess is large vacuum leak, probably booster. Disconnect the line at the booster, plug it with engine running and see if vents work as commanded. If not, then look downstream.

See if your line from the pump to the T on the top of the firewall is disconnected. 9/10 it's been pulled out when you were fiddling around under the hood.

It was working fine and then bam, nothing...

But I will have dad check all the vaccum fitting and lines before he puts the booster on it, I'm in ND right now working for the next 2 weeks...

Where in ND?

I'm working in Dickinson for Baker...

It ended up being the booster, I had him remove all of the ABS **** and put a new master cylinder on it as well and let the brake lines drain and refilled with clean fluid. Just need bled now a little as the right is pulling a little more than the left but the left needs a new bleeder. He also put a new steering box on it as well...

Looks like I will be installing my leveling kit and dual shocks this time home, which I am very happy about, my truck is finally coming around...
