adjustments on a steering gearbox

i have a little bit of road wonder on my truck have to make tiny corrections while driving had all the regular front end checked then rechecked now i think i have a bit of play in the gear box. Found the jam nut on top what size wrech fits and which way to turn to tighten the play out. I guessed righty tighty lefty losey. And how much would i need to adjust, not to over tighten and mess it up worse.

Find a service manual, there are a few adjustments to the box that can be made. You loosen the nut, and turn the bolt in.
