450 dollars for an intake system..

a little more than what i was expecting, But as per the manufacturers claim of 60-100 miles more per tank, is it worth it? or is it true? For the common rail in my sig,

if you have one, please share your experience with it.., performancewise and milege wise as well..

Well my answer is yes and no. LOL I have the AFE Stage II now and had the first Stage I and Torque Tube before that.

You can certainly get more air flow with less expensive kits or a DIY BHAF.

When I can I like to buy the best as long as it is functionally the best as well as prettiest/highest cost. I like the quality and fit of the AFE kits I have had. With probably $50k in this truck over the years an extra $150 on a performance mod doesn't bother me.

But like I said you can get the same function for much less.

Oh I forgot to reply to performance and mileage. I have used all of the different AFE filter types. I currently use the ProDry S filter. I generally clean them around 20k miles. I do a white glove test maybe monthly or if I need to remove the filter for any reason. I have never found any dirt/dust of significance in the intake tube.

As far as mileage increase, I doubt it is much, but when used with better exhaust flow it will help spool turbo a little quicker, maybe lower EGTs a touch. That could produce some minimal mileage improvement. I can't really confirm that though.

interesting, thanks for your observations..

I had a K&N once before, and it started to release the metal parts of it into the turbo on my 12V, so i am not goin that way again... But from what it seems, the only way to acquire a stage 2, is with a modest turbo upgrade..

if i put a muffler on this thing it will be a hushpower, she likes the "quiet" diesel, whereas i like the rackety second gen sound, since it is her daily driver, ill respect her wishes, all bets are off tho when i find my new daily driver, and finish payin weddin expenses...

AFE drop in? perhaps the best bet?

I would build your own intake you can save alot of money that way. the intakes like the willys whistler intakes are really nice for the money

Build your own intake with an AFE cone filter and some 4" metal piping. Half the price and flows the same. And you should know better than to believe those kind of mileage gains. I'm still running the original AFE filter that comes with the scotty 2 and I've got over 100k miles on it.

As for the hushpower muffler, I freaking love mine. I'm running it on my 6" stacks and they are dead quiet inside but loud outside.

hmm

tyler thanks for the observation, and input , next question

anyone run just the stage one AFE cone filter with the stock intake tube? its about half the price..

willys whistler? hmm interestin lemme look into it..

I will warn you though, the aFe stg 2 intake along with the silencer ring removed will make for alot of turbo noise. Mine really sings.

I prefer the AFE ProGuard7 filter myself and fab up my own plumbing.

I have the AFE Stage 2 on my 04.5 01smoker said, if you take the silencer ring out and put the intake on, the turbo really sings.. but i love that sound so it doesnt bother me. I cant say that i really noticed a mpg increase, but i was also running the stock cat and muffler when i put the intake on. Since then i have put a free flow muffler and took the cat off. Well i noticed that my filter was getting really dirty after about 10k, kept telling myself that i needed to clean it. (i live on a gravel road and we farm, so thats why it got so dirty so fast, going in and out of fields) I didnt think it was that clogged.. Well before, my truck smoked quite a bit when i wanted it to, i just figured it was the PPE, well i finally got a slow time at work yesterday and cleaned it out very well and last night driving around, it doesnt smoke near as bad as it did, (just shows me that now i know what the filter looks like when it is real dirty) I had taken the filter off one night when i was changing my oil and just tapped it on the bench and i actually got dust coming from the inside of the filter... wiped the inside of the torque tube with my finger and there was a little dust residue in there... took the torque tube off and nothing on the turbo fins, which made me feel better.. i am sending an oil sample in to make sure everything is alright. but now the turbo spools faster seems like and now she will really scoot.. i never thought it was that dirty....IMO it was worth the money.
