I'm collecting parts for a 12 valve build. I'm needing a head. I would like to stick with a genuine cummins cylinder head. A new one is outrageous when I'm going to be putting a lot of money in it after I get it for port/polish/fun stuff. A genuine cummins head used is almost certain to be already cracked. Has anyone bought a new aftermarket head and used it for serious H.P. and not had any problems? You can get a aftermarket head new from many distributors for anywhere from 400-600 $ all day long. But it would be really easy to use a cheaper iron to make it look good from the outside but not be worth a D*mn for more than stock power! Just a thought. I would more than willing pay for a good head than try to be a tight a** and blow it up.:bang

Damn I do not keep up with the cool kids.

I had to google: LetMeGoogleThatForYou.com

Ebay used to list a bunch of them for $400 new complete with springs. The dealer was out of NY or NJ. I wouldn't trust them for that price as I can only guess where they were cast at and dought that they were great imitations.

Where does cummins cast its current blocks and heads?

I could be wrong, which happens very often, but the places Mexico and Brazil seem to come to ming for their current heads and blocks

I believe they do some of their casting in China, I could be wrong. I do know that several years ago, one of the machine equipment suppliers I was dealing with, was commenting how cummins had plans to build a greenfield site turbocharger plant for just under $5million.

You're probably right. Everything is chinese anymore. I think I have heard China before too.

I am sure they do some of the casting in China. They are truely a world company. We don't see alot of that stuff here though. Heck I saw a factory 5.9 24v PPump in a gen set while I was in Iraq but there was no CPL on it. The local mechs wernt big on the Chinese Cummins motors either. Back on topic, I highly dought that those heads were Cummins castings but were cheap knock offs that China is notorious for. Yep looks the same and bolts on but just doesn't work as well. I also wouldn't want to spend money on a head where the metalurgy is notoriously bad. This is the reason that alot of castings are heavier in 3rd world foundries. Bad metal equals add more and hope it holds. China has gotten better in this department but who says that it came from a good foundry?

^^^^ didn't u have some issues with a chino head back in the day?

i bought a new loaded 24 valve head for 1800 from river city diesel. give them a call they might have a 12v head

I have lots of Cummisn 12v cylheads (some are made in US, some in Brazil) I also have one non marked 12V head (no idea whereits made, but i quess its China knock off).

The non marked head visually looks identical, it have tha same cast number outside, but its missing casting number inside of intake manifold (all other have it)

If its Cummins original part made in China, then its marekd Made in China.

Anyone know the quality of heads from PTC Power? Theyre supposedly cast in the U.S. They just came out with a cr head with no press in valve seats. They have 12v and 24v also.
