Saw a sales ad in one of the diesel magazines this past week for air bags. It listed both in board (behind brakes on axle tube) style and out board (bolted on top of leaf spring pack removing overloads) styles saying that the in board ride better.

Has anyone had BOTH styles and can honestly tell me one rides better than the other? I picked up a new in box Ride Rite air bag kit for a 3rd Gen 1500 for $100 from a buddy, but will have to fabricate all my own brackets and was wondering if its worth the hassel to go in board style? Yes, I checked the bags and they are the same part # that comes in 2500 kits.

I've had both. Mnd you it was in a Dakota. I liked the inboard better.

It depends on what your doing. If your towing the inboard is smoother, if you got a camper then its all about sway control and outboard is what you want. Its just leverage, both mounts support equally, one just is better for top heavy loads.

Towing 24Ft goose 97 pulling truck. Rear springs are weak on my 99 it sags very badly, Ky Sheriff didn't like my HID's in his face on my way to a pull one night, but thanks to my CCP striking up a convo he let me go.:hehe::rockwoot:

Easy way to answer your question, If you wish you had a dually mount them outboard. If not, inboard. And I love my onboard compressor, changing the ride on the go is awesome. Hope that helps!

LOL I don't wish I'd bought a dually.......I love my 99 and I "STOLE IT" for what I paid for it!

I just want better ride, and to level it out because it squats worse than any other truck I've ever towed with. I guess I need to get some pics of in board bags and start fabbing. :thankyou2:

side note-theres a controller out there for airbags thats wireless. Set the psi, and it keeps the bags at that set psi. When not in use put in glovebox or middle console out of the way when not towing.

Ahh...I have on board air so I'm just gonna run the lines up into the toolbox probably where my compressor is. I've seen and priced that controller.....no thanks!:kick:
