Air filter: Oil less is still the new fade right?

So, my last oil report. silicon was a little high... So I pulled the filter, yep, a little black came off with a wipe in the intake tube. So I did a few swipes with the AFE oil.... Few weeks later, the filter is dry is seems.. normally I always have a little oil lines on the pre filter. never had an issue this way.. So I'm adding a little more oil tonight.

So, could it be the bigger turbo is sucking more air.. and the filter isn't well, capable anymore? I don't think this is the case, but the filter is 2 or 3 years old now and been cleaned twice a year. no holes or anything I can see.

I'm thinking of just getting an oil-less filter, this one isn't "cool looking" anymore.

This still the case? Anyone have any sources of a good price for AFE dry filters?

I hope this isn't a can-o-worms thread.

i dont know if there is a big difference between the oiled and oiless filters as far as if there is any power gains.

i have been told to stay away from the oiled ones because the turbos will suck so hard that it will suck the oil right out of them and if you have any maf sensors that the oil can ruin them. just what i have heard i have no hard evidence on that.

i made my own intake with some scraps off salvaged trucks and just bought my filter from a local performance shop i think it was around 70 bucks it has a 6 inch opening and is about an 10 inches in overall dia and about 8 inches tall. its actually just a replacement airfilter for a cold air intake that was designed for the dodge trucks.

Dunno. I had the intake fabbed up with 4" exhaust pipe. I can't remember if it was on the expanded connector (4.25" OD) or on the pipe (4" OD).

I've been really happy with my AEM.

Silicon levels have been way down, about half of the "universal" averages. The only thing I would ever change about it would be to go to a larger filter. That will probably happen down the road when I put the twins on.

Well, I've ordered the ProDry S.

I'll ensure I get an oil sample before I change the oil in a few weeks. Just seems like all the oil is getting sucked in this PG7.
