I put one of those filter minders on my cold air intake. its 4" tubing, with a 4" slip on universal k&n. the filter minder is reading between 8 and 11 inHg at 30-40psi of boost. at what vacuum measurement does the filter start to hurt performance? when is the filter considered too small? I know in an ideal world you'd want no vacuum between the filter and turbo, but that's not really achievable while actually using a filter.

Mine gets up to 7" vacuum after about 40psi. When the filter was brand new, it would get up to 4".

I hear that around 7 to 10" vacuum is where it needs cleaning. Ideally it wouldn't draw vacuum. I want to try the stage II dodge afe filter to see if it still draws vacuum. That's the one afe said had the most flow, unless you count their 24" long filter and the others that won't fit.

hmmmmm, leading me to believe my filter is too small. not sure what else will fit down there.

maybe i should check mine. i have an afe filter that has a 6" opening that is about a 10" x 10" (total area taken up by it) cone that has a smaller cone in the end of it. i know it was made for a 94-98 12v cold air intake that i was gonna put on my conversion but ended up just with the filter and some pvc piping.

this is the AFE stage 2 filter, techinically called the Mega Cannon filter i believe. i have this on my truck, the thing is huge, probably about the biggest filter you can get without using a twins filter. i dont have a filter restriction gauge, but i highly doubt it would even pull it down. more than likey the filter you have on your truck is too small, and that is why it is pulling down the filter guage. wheni had the K&N FIPK system on my truck, it used to stock filter minder, and it never moved, sooo i would try a larger filter first. hope this helps!

yeah i got that stage II filter with some air filter duct from semi's that goes from the 6 inch on the filter down to 5.5 to 5 and then the 4 on the turbo all with in about 24 inches of distance from filter to turbo.

got any pics?

i have 24" if not more between the filter and turbo, all 4", but i dunno if that effects anything.

the filter im running is a 4" k&n, maybe 10" long, im not sure much else will fit.
