I put a rod through both sides of mine at about 4100 rpm. I was at around 1200 hp with the stock bottom end, which suprisingly is still in very good condition. I believe I added a little too much timing, with too much nitrous and hydrolocked it.
I destroyed 3 PSD before I decided to go with a 12v.I know it's not a cummins but still carnage:evil. They all at the 500hp level. One with Nos and Propane, another do to cavitation and the last weak rods.
Some people have different definitions for the word "blown up". Ive heard some people say they blew up their engine when it was really just a head gasket. I would say that it should be when catastrophic damage occurs and the engine is beyond repair. AKA windowing a block like morkable did.
4bt cummins went boom here. Cracked the block around #4 cylinder. Also split the block from front to back exactly halfway down the big frost plug in the side of the block. Split from oil filter mount all the way around the back of the block. Dyno'd 496hp.
i've got one at the shop that is BONE STOCK that broke 4 rods and completely destroyed everything. not sure what happened. i think a LOT of RPM was involved.
But, My failure wasn't from too much HP/TQ......It was around the 800 range though.
I had a freeze plug in the head (Under the valve cover) blow out and it dumped ALL of my coolant into the oil...... Not good!
Many have seen these pics but I'll share again since your new here......BTW, If you Ever have the head off, I HIGHLY recommend the threaded freeze plug kit from Dr. Performance (tap & plugs) to prevent this.....It's cheap insurance.
