Has anyone tried using the gas-burner version radiator from the 2nd gen trucks (in a 2nd gen, of course)? How about a smaller aftermarket unit.

This appilcation is for a 5000# street truck that is used for play only. It would look like my options for installing a better intercooler design would be greatly increased by allowing the end tanks and elbow fittings some room to be sized differently.

As far as I know, installing a gasser radiator is a bolt-on affair, and would save some weight/free up space/ and possibly not hinder the cooling performance of my truck with it's current usage.

thoughts/experiences (no feelings, though)

If it is used for a 5000lb play only truck then I don't really see why not? Are you goin' to run electric fans?

Shoot with it being so light it should have zero problem with water temps.

i saw a pulling truck locally a few weeks ago that had a custom rad, it was about half the length of the stocker, but still the same height and thickness. he mounted it in the center of the rad suppot leaving a ton of room on both sides for piping etc. funny thing was that he said the rad hoses were off the shelf 1st gen pieces that went right on. this was a p-pumped 24v tho.

Probably would run electric fans for convenience... unless the shrouds are similar and/or the factory shroud could be modified. that fan surely moves a lot of air. It's too bad i cant use it as a propeller to pull the truck :D

good to know:
