I am pretty sure the 01-02 engine ecms are the same and interchangable but just wanted to throw it out and make sure. Both are off auto tranny rigs.
This is forum #4 to post this question on now. Hopefully someone can answer it for me. No response from the other 3 forums for days so far.
I found one for a reasonable price off an 01 auto and was wondering if I could use it on my 02 if for some reason Mine were to die.

I'm pretty sure they have to be the same year and options to just plug in but you can get them re flashed with a smarty or cummins. So yes an 02 will work in an 01 but might need to be re flashed.

Early 01 may not operate the late 01 and 02 cruise control. It went from vacuum to electronic. It's a hit and miss since you're right in the time frame when significant changes were made. Auto seemed to lag behind the manual transmissions. Almost any other series of ECMs we could have positively answered for you. Otherwise, just plug and play. Can you try it before you buy? If so, check cruise control function and see if your oil pressure gauge functions correctly.

I will see if the rig it came out of had electric or vacuum cruise. Another forum had a reply saying that if both were autos they would work.
Thanks for the replys guys.

I put an ECM off of an 02 6 spd on a late 01 6 spd yesterday and it wouldnt work. There was only 1 digit difference in part numbers. So the plug and play idea is questionable. I guess it would be worth a shot but dont count on it.
