i did 140 with arp lube. they all held fine and have been retourqed to 140 twice. they were holding 40 psi out of the stock hx35, then they were holding 55psi out of a e.d. 62/68/14 for about 8 or 9 months. all this was on a stock 100,000 mile headgasket and studs replaced the stock headbolts one at a time...... i think 140 is a good number to go to if your using an accurate tourque wrench and a good smooth pull on clean studs and holes.
ive run mine at 150, and it still wont hold then damm head down lol and what jaybuller said. i think keeping a smooth pull and clean threads will help keep them more accurate.
I torqued a friends to 150 (by his request), using ample lube, and they were galling up to the threads. When I was breaking them loose to re-lube and go to the next torque step, I had to use a combo and an allen wrench to get the nuts off the stud.
Are you guys backing the nuts off before going to the next torque setting? I need to seat my o-ringed head overnight tonight. I ran the studs all the way down and then backed it out 1/2 turn. I took them up to 65 then 85 today without backing nuts off. These are new(never used) 425's. What do you guys recommend? I was going to stop at 135 then set it in truck and run through cam break-in then check it or possibly take them to 140. Steven.
