There are some all-steel monotherm pistons that have made it into Cummins B's, but what about some steel-crown/ aluminum-skirt two-piece articulated pistons?

Almost the same durability as an all-steel piston with a little bit less mass? Maybe a little bit more affordable?

it would be a good idea, however im not sure if anyone is making them??? Cummins uses articulated pistons on the ISC/ISL, & ISM engines that i have seen. all the ISB engines are still single piece aluminum. don't know if that is going to change down the road. will have to see what the new ISX, and the Baby X(11L that replaces the current ISM) engines have in them. got some training coming up on those in the fall.....you all should see where they decided to put the high pressure common rail pump on the 15L ISX's, right smack between most frame rails, and the block, and they weigh right around 45lbs. i would say by looking at them....oh i pray they don't have many failures!

More mass, the monotherms are a lighter design than the two piece/articulated pistons.

I can tell you though, that steel crown is nice.
