Putting my engine back together and I'm currently getting all the ring gaps setup. The manual has a spec for the oil control ring gap but doesn't discuss the coiled wire that rides inside this ring. Does this need to be trimmed to fit? It seems like it's very tough to compress it.

To check the oil ring gap, I removed the coiled wire from it and slipped the ring into the bore. With this coiled wire in place, I can't get the ring installed by hand.

????

(EDIT) - sorry wrong forum, someone move it for me to the Dodge Competition forum...

I had no problems with the gaps out of the box on OEM pistons.

Are you using a ring pliers? If not, it will make them oblong and harder to fit.
