What does everyone think of running a set of Trxus STS AT's in the back with a nice set of MT's in the front?

Thats what I plan to run, does it sound logical?

I would flip 'em around since the front axle is generally weaker...unless you are figuring that it gets less traction....

im pretty sure i saw brad ingrams truck with a set of bfg at's in back and bfg mt's in front or wrangler mtr's i dont member for sure but it seems to work

also a buddy of mine was hooking up too hard with mt's in the rear and kept breaking ring an pinion till he went to at's in rear never had a porblem with front
thats just what i have seen and experienced

Lots of the gasser guys run the STS in the back and a MT in the front. I asked why and they said cause they couldn't afford STS all the way around!

I would have to say that the front is always lacking on traction compared to the rear.. Unless its just me.. My front end lifted a ton when I got off the line, but then again my hitch was 13" out past the rear of the truck.

Was he breaking a D80 or a D70?

seemed to me a good number of the superstreet trucks last year were running like a set of BFG ATs in the back and STSs up front on a DUALLY configuration. It may not have been the majority of them but it sure seemed like several of them were.

If they are SRW, I'd run STS all around and learn to set the psi according to the differing track conditions... I have seen them hook in every thing from mud to sandy/peddley to clay so hard it left black marks. All of whic require some different pressures to get the benefit of them... once you learn the tires and how to set them up, IMO, there isn't a better all around pulling tire made - they are some gripping mo-fo's!!!

MT s are not the best pulling tires on either end, by any stretch of the imagination.

You want to grip and stay on top of the track, not dig holes in it.

I ran a set of Kumho MTs ONCE. After looking at the 200 feet of canals I dug down to the rim, I decided that was stupid.

The STS's are relatively cheap IMO...mud terrains and most all-terrains run more than the STS.

the MT will give you less bite , they have less rubber down to the ground. I had mt all the way around my truck once and was getting whipped ,so I switched to AT and it dropped my rpm 200 and it gave me an average of about 20ft more per hook man those things hooked up. ( bolth sets were BFG's) my STS's were just trench diggerscould never get on top of the track with them the pic in my avatar was what it looked like with them all the way down the track, just a diggin..

He meant he had just bought 4 new MT's and he split them with a buddy. So they both had STS's on the back and the MT on the front.

What I have heard from some guys is they run AT's on the back so they don't dig down as much and they don't throw a big pile of dirt in front of the sled. Also the back you have a lot more pressure pulling down on it from the sled so the more contact surface you can get with the ground the better.

Rod, I've never had that issue unless I was running too much pressure. What pressures were you running, just curious.

Rod was running STS bias ply's. We found that the STS bias ply did not work as well as the Radial STS's. That might of been the problem. Also Ingram was running STS's in the front and ATS in the rear at the last pull.

I agree with bubba the AT's on the back so they don't dig down as much and they don't throw a big pile of dirt in front of the sled. Also the back you have a lot more pressure pulling down on it from the sled so the more contact surface you can get with the ground the better.

Isn't that why the tractor cut the tire?

Silver, I think you are right about the tractor guys cutting their tires for that reason but don't quote me on that.

On the front of the truck you need as much bite as you can possibly get. But it seems like every truck likes something different so you will just have to play with it.

I was curious on mismatching tires like this as well. I noticed a lot of gassers try different combinations in our area (AT and MT) but never any diesel guys I pulled against.

I was runnin the bais ply's
I would run 30psi in the front and 65psi in the back. it could just be are wonderfull Michigan tracks also.they tend to have little clay in them and are a touch soft.
