Curious what any of you are running for gears in auto trucks for sled pulling? I would like to run a 66 charger, thinking gears will help light it quicker especially daily driving, also run 35s
 
if you were trying to spin lets say a 3in charger,what gears would you be running and what gear in the tranny with the auto.what would your stall be?

Im curious in the input for that also. Ill be goin that route lookin for 4500rpm. Im thinking with 410s 2nd locked will prolly be proper.

OP, anything over 410 wont be fun for daily driving as you mentioned unless its short distance driving.
 
are you going to dd a 3in truck?for some messin around maybe.i also think with some bigger gears,maybe shift to 3rd?looking for input

what is your RPM at say 60mph?
 
410s with 35s and the auto i could run 70-72 at 2000 rpm.

No im not drivin the truck with 3in charger. Its just a puller. Id rather not change gears if i dont have to, but if second locked cant handle it ill have to. Im gonna try it like it is and see, i dont know if my converter will need a changin or not, its only 21-2200 stall.

A dana 80 does not have the 4.56 ratio, but does have 4.63 ratio,
I have not pulled it yet but I put 4.63 in back and 4.56 in front (Power lock out of a 1975 dana 60 rear)
With the 10 speed I can get geared to about a 13.5 overall reduction.
A 5 speed with 3.55 running low range 3rd gear, is 16.08 overall reduction
 
I run a s475 turbo, and daily drive my truck just becuse I can with a 2000 stall, and 373 gears and, 35" tires when I pull, I run 3rd gear locked and my rpms are 3900-4000 the whole track
