Well I had Tires Plus put two new rotors on my truck about 2 weeks ago and when I got my truck back I saw some fluid on the side wall of the tire and it looked as if it had come from the axle. I figured it was just where they were working on the truck so a few days go by and nothing is dripping any more, but now I went to check it because I parked on a slant and sure enough there is fluid leaking on the tire again. I'm going to be calling Tires Plus and letting know what is up and see if they can do something about it.

If they wont fix it what all is needed to do the job and how involved is it???:bang :bang

I had the passenger side and inner done for like 500, included the seals and all. Like said above you will need a special tool to do it.

which side?

passenger side isnt bad because you get to it through the CAD plate...but the driver side requires you to remove the carrier...something i need to do soon myself. it would HAVE to be the drivers side for me wouldn't it!

Rear axle
- remove wheel.
- remove brake drum. (in my case)
- remove axle bolts and slide out axle (when lifting the truck, helps to jack up the side your working on rather than in the middle, so the fluid runs to the other side and not on the floor)
-remove hub(32mm socket) There is a little gold metal tab hammered into the threads that locks the 32mm nut down. Pull it out and reuse. You'll see the gap for it in the 32mm nut.
-remove hub and bearings.
- with a pick or flat head screwdriver etc... get the seal out.
-repack bearings.
- tap new seal in with hammer.
-put everything back on.

When you put the axle hub nut back on, tighten it all the way by hand, then put a rachet to it til the hub spins with medium effort. Then tap the gold tab back in.

It's the passanger side. So I can get to it from the CAD? Does any have any pics of the seal and installation?

this might be pretty basic but is the bleeder valve completly closed? i imagined they bled the breaks

well hope for the easy and cheap fix

The seal, hub, and bearing are alot like a front rotor, where the bearings are inside and is held on to the spindle with a nut and cotter pin. The seal is pretty much the same as well.
Hope this helps.
...You'd probably know if your bleeder valve was open, and there's a big difference in differential fluid and brake fluid. Your nose will help on that one.

yeah i have been putting off changing out my driver side axle seal i need to do it soon.

If it's the front axle seal it's not bad, I did mine twice, b/c it wasn't done right the first time. Save yourself the time and hassle and order the install tool from quad4x4, it makes the install 10 times easier...Pull the caliper off, slide the rotor off, take off the dust shield, remove ABS sensor, undo the 4 bolts on the back of the hub and just pull the whole hub assembly out with the axle...pull the cad off, slide out the intermediate shaft and everything else is straight forward. I just did mine 2 weeks ago. I still have the tool laying around if anyone locally needs to use it.
