I have a 2000 just put back together after putting the cam hg and studs in. I relpaced the fan belt just for security. Never had a problem in the first 50 min of run time. Since I have driven it home it has gotten noticbly lounder. I put some belt conditioner on the belt and it solved the problem for about 10 min. Now the whine is back and I am kind of stuck. I just replaced the alt. about 200 mi ago. My next guess is the idler. Is it a b!tch to get the thing off with out dealkin with the radiator? Any way to test/check one to see if the bearings are going out of it? Thanks.

Check for play in the bearings. As far as the belt go to napa and get valve grinding compound.Permatex makes it.It will fix any belt noise.Sometimes pits get on the idler and when the belt goes over the pits air gets compressed and it makes a noise.Just idle after you put a thin layer of the compound on otherwise it will spray all over.Clover makes it also.
