I have a buddy that has an 06 Duramax and he is currently running a Banks Six-Gun with the a FASS pump, water-meth injection, 5" straight pipe exhaust, and the trans shift kit. He is pretty unhappy with the Banks, and it looks like you dont stack anything on these duramax's. Do you guys think he should ditch the Banks and go with an EFI Live or PPE or what? He also only gets like 14 mpg with this set-up as well. Are all these trucks running fuel mileage like this?

Im getting around 20 with my edge evo on my LBZ Duramax. IMHO the PPE is the best thing for a duramax next to EFI live though, Im not overly impressed with the EVO either

PPE is the best programmer hands down. But if he wants more power and has the time to tune tell him to go with efi live. You can but from a tuner that will sell it with two tunes. One 500hp or so and one tow tune.

Banks has issues like the PDA they go bad in less than a year banks will not stand behind them ,they it is not their product so their warrantee does not cover it. But they keep selling them. They say the PDA cannot take the temperature changes.

PPE or EFI are the only 2 tuners out there for us... Why is he even tryin to run a Lift pump with a Banks system. I don't think the Banks system will ever ask for enough fuel to need it. If he wants to keep it simple and stay with Crakcer Jack tunes the PPE is the way to go. But if he has time to learn and wants to learn EFI is and always will be the King of D-Max tuneing.

Banks is for guys who look at magazine ads.

PPE is an awesome tuner, i ran it for a year, then got EFI live, WOW What POWER! EFI is the only way to go unless you want a handheld.

I've got a banks on mine and if i drive it 60 on the road it will get 19-20. However, if I do any running around town or out on the farm i get 12-14. Didn't do enough homework on the banks before i bought it. My PDA went bad after less than a month. They sent me a refurbished one and it works fine. Love the shift on the fly and monitoring it does. Would have been better with efi i do believe.

Never heard that before. I've got a 6gun on my lbz truck for over 145,000 miles now and not a single problem out of it

6 gun on SL with the acc pump turned up can run out of fuel

ok Tim, I admit it...I did look at an ad but it was for Wizers Deluxe..good ole Canadian Whiskey.. and the good lookin woman holding the bottle LOL.! :D

I too have the banks 6gun pda. Only time I ever had an issue with the pda was when I left it in the truck in Sudbury one night last winter - it got to -37C (damned near -40), and I froze / fried the battery..bought a new bat on flea-bay and its been good to go since. I've had that pda since Mar 07..ZERO other issues.

Mileage wize...its been good: 65mph - 19+ mpg

I agree that the banks is not the best tuner, however the gauge set up is excellent in that ya dont have to get a pillar post + banks is likely the safest unit out there as it will defuel (not saying others wont cause I dont know-but that is what I read on other forums), and after spending 800 usd for it...,kinda hard now to dump it and go with EFI live, which in my opinion is the ultra tuning system bar none. One look at the laptop software it uses will convince anyone of that. As for settings, you can get a "DSPS"..? switch for 5 different tunes...more than enough for most.

but for now stuck with the banks unit till i win lottery.

cheers,

stk

I just Bought a Banks 6 gun tuner with the IQ dashboard and I am very disipointed with what i got. I saw no performance gains no fuel economy gains and tech. support explained to me that my turbo was already putting out the max psi for my truck due to the modifications that have been made to it, and that the Banks 6 gun tuner gave power gains by increasing the psi and the trucks computer would compensate by adding more fuel on its own. You deffinantly pay 1100 dollars for the name and almost nothing else. I will not make that mistake again. I drive a 05 Dodge Cummins and to all you dodge and cummins people out there you might want to look away and stop reading now because of what I am about to type, But here goes... I should of listened to my friends that Have there powerstrokes programed with bully dog and edge because banks sucks. Oh yeah if you have to return a banks product be prepaired to take a 30% yes I said 30 PERCENT cut on your refund due to a " re- stocking fee"!!!!!!!!!!!:badidea:

Bully Dog and Edge both suck for the Duramax Banks is no better IMO. PPE and EFI are the kings

Banks 6-Gun is the best tuner if you don't intend on building your trans (I liked mine when everything was stock). You get used to the power very quickly and you end up wanting more. Wouldn't expect much better all-around mileage with any tuner unless you can drive 65mph consistently.

For the most Plug and Play power get a PPE but be prepared to do some trans work eventually. They will make very good power.

EFI Live will do most anything and I have seen some mileage tunes advertised. It will give you the most latitude to grow.

I have a 06 LBZ and im wanting to increase the mileage mainly...what would you suggest because i have no need to go fast just good power to pull and good mileage.
