I pulled the timing case off my motor today, the the end of the dowel pin was cracked off (so it was on a 30* angle).

In hindsight, I should have just left it alone, but no, I decided it needed to be replaced.

Anyway, I started to try to remove it, vise grips did nothing, tapped it in to try to free it up, it went in about 1/8", vise grips still did nothing.

So I started to drill it out, only went about 1/2" deep, not sure whats on the other side, all the way to 9/32" (looks like a 3/8" dowel pin), still wont budge.

First, is there any thing behind it? Should i drill deeper, or try to tap it then pull it out with a bolt? Any other advise?

Thanks

As I said, looking back, i should have left it.

Forrest, I wish I could have, being a welder for 10 years, that is usually my first fix for everything, but I don't have power where the motor is.

I wasn't able to get the pin "out", but I did get real lucky and drilled it about as center as could be without being in a lathe. I opened the hole up to 23/64 and it spun (finally). So i reamed it to 0.365 (.010 press fit for 3/8) and I am all set to put a new dowel pin in. The back of the original pin is still in there, I'm about 5/16" deep from the front of the block now. Will a hollow pin work? I'm basically just wondering if theres coolant or oil behind the KDP, which I don't think there is because I've never heard of anything happening when the KDP falls out.

Thanks
