Well my trucks battery voltage gauge dropped off while i was driving the other day so i checked everything out and it appeared that my altenator died. So i put a new one in it. Like an idiot i didnt disconnect the batteries when changing it out i accidentally shorted the hot wire out against the engine so i blew the 140 amp altenator fuse. So i replaced it. truck still wont charge??? I took it to advanced auto to have the charging system checked out all checked out ok except for one of my batteries so i replaced it. and yet stilll the charging system isnt working all the wiring appears to be good no loose connections or anything? I dont know what else it could be the only code stored in the computer is P1682-charging system voltage low. Any help would be great!!!

Check to see if you are getting a ground signal to the alternator from the PCM, it controls the charge circuit. If you are not getting said signal, you will be needing a PCM, last I checked you couldn't wire around it. Hopefully by now someone has come up with a workaround.

Yeah i was worried it might be my pcm, do you think the ambient battery temp sensor could be the problem?? or does it pretty much sound like a bad pcm?

just put an external regulator on it if thats all that was affected the regulator is 15 bucks a whole lot cheaper than a pcm

Yeah thats what i think im going to do cause it drives fine it just wont charge my batteries.
