well installed a BD flexplate, fully built trany and ported head with studs. well the problem that i have is i hot tourqued the studs put the motor back together and now when i go to start it the starter and flexplate make a real bad grinding noise when trying to crank the motor over. the noise is coming from the back of the motor. pulled my tranny out to inspect flex plate and all seems to be fine. with the tranny still out i jumpered the neutral saftey switch and went to crank it still the same thing. replaced starter same noise, any ideas

check to make sure the flex plate fit over the converter snub and over the end of the crank properly

if the starter is meshing to tight with the flexplate it will make that sound also.

in our case it was a worn out crank thrust bearing and the crank would shuttle forward enough to allow the flywheel to hit the starter gear slightly while running

if your clearances are sloppy and the flywheel is a little large you could be havin the same issue
