I am thinking about sticking some BFG 255/85r16 tires on my truck. I want to stay close to a 33 or even go to a 35.

I currently have some load range D goodyear ATS 285/75r16 on the truck. They have been an ok tire, I would say they might make it 40K, but I tow alot and they are wearing in the rear more than the fronts.

I am thinking about trying some BFG MT 255/85R16's load range D.

This is on a SRW 2500 truck. I know they will be a little narrower, but I am wondering it that will help on some fuel economy.

I really want to know what experience folks have with this tire, and towing.
Be too tall of side wall and have too much flex or?

If I can stay the same I am ok. Kind of able to get these for cheap is one reason. I don't want to only get 20K out of them though, or they have lots of sway.

Why would you want a MT if you concerner about sway and mileage? And only a load D? If price is right go for it, otherwise I have found BFG MT to be a sucky all around tire - the AT lives a better life.

The price is good, but if it is going to sway and be a crappy tire to tow with then I probably will pass.

I have run a few sets of MT's and they all tend to sway, hum, and wear fast. Especially on a ctd...they are hard on sneakers as it is. Nitto terra grapplers seem to be a kickin' tire in a 10 ply for towing

Thanks for the feed back.

Pretty sure the 255/85r16 BFG MTs only come in a load range E. Couldn't find anything on there site in that size with a D rating. Are they the new KM2s or the old style?

Everything I saw showed them as a D. If they are an E then I will probably do it.

Did some more looking (tire rack, discount tire ect.) all I can find is the new KM2s in with a E rating. I am fairly certain the old style MTs were only available as Es in that size, but I can't find anything to back it up, so I won't say 100%. If they are Es and the price is good I would run them. I am not a big fan of MTs on a most street driven truck, but that is just me personally. I am a big fan of that size though, I kinda dig the tall skinny look. Wish somebody made a 255/85r17 so I could run them on my 3rd gen wheels.

I have good luck with Mastercraft tires. I tow a lot and can get about 35,000-40,000 out of them but I'm not sure if they have 255/85/16 sizes I run 235/85's.

I only got 10k miles out of BFG M/T. They were noisy as hell too, cupped so bad they were worthless. I switched to A/T & couldn't be happier, about 30k miles a set & they are quiet & wear nice & flat. They tow great!

I had bfg a/t and went to nitto terra grappler I'd say theyre about the same except for price difference the nitto are way cheaper
