So, Im putting this together after getting it back from balancing, and am wondering what way I should put these rods.

The older engines longside is towards the exaust, service manual for my 04 isb says long side to the intake, (3 common rails in my shop now are this way).....in the same manual they say for the 6.7 back to the exaust side?

So what the short stint of running the rods the other way for exactly?

I think they hit the cam if they are in backwards. IIRC long side towards the exhaust. Me and Josh were talking about them after my "Bent Rod" episode mabey I should have took notes! Another thing im pretty sure his rods are marked as far as which end of the cap goes on which end of the rod, they go bearing tang to bearing tang IIRC I know the cunninghams werent marked.....

The rod bolt heads go towards the cam

So that would be the opposite way, that the stock PM rods are then right? Getting conflicting views here!

Two engine's I know of with cunninghams went bolts away from cam, another bolts towards cam.....

I got them in the engine right now, bolts away from the cam, BUT there is a clearance issue with a bolt at #1 and the oil pump gallery. The bolt head can be ground a little to clear.

I did stick one in to get piston protusion before I sent it out for balancing, and did it bolts towards the cam and it cleared that way too.

Flip a coin?

Yeah the caps are marked, thats no sweat, talked to Josh today, but didn't hear back yet.

I think i'll go out and flip one around and have a look see.....(long side to the exaust) see what I think...

Thats the way the 12v'ers running them, still wonder why they flipped them for the ISB's???

The engine rotates clockwise, with the longside of the rod on the exhaust side of the engine would mean the bolts will be aiming towards the cam as the engine makes a revolution. So we were saying the samething.........

Understand, but you can see why I'm questioning it, I have three common rails apart in the shop right now, all rods, longside toward the intake----bolts AWAY from the cam. Says same thing in the service manual.

Once I seen I had a clearance issue with the billet rod and the oil pump gallery on #1 I did some checking and sure enough the older motors.....longside to exaust.

I know on common rails the short side to the j-jet piston cooling nozzle because long side would block piston cooling for a moment every rotation.
