If its only blowing out the defrost vents then a vacuum line is not hooked up.4wd will not work either. Most likely place is right at the firewall on the driver side of the engine bay.The vacuum line runs up from the vacuum pump and tee's in there.
all vents work while the truck is running, but if you turn the truck off and play with the dial i only get defrost while the key is on and truck not running and no change in air temp

With the truck off you don't have vacuum so that is normal. Are you sure the a/c is charged or you didn't damage something while R & R'ing the head?Someone correct me if I'm wrong, the blend door is electricaly operated and the recirc door is vacuum. You can verify the recirc by looking behind the glove box and seeing if the actuator is moving. The blend door is not so easy.I think you have to remove the dash to gain access(sight) to see if its working.
it's not only the ac ,theres no heat either, yes blend door is electric and thers power in the blue wire tested with a test light, same blue wire down by the passenger floor board also has power,[gave up on taking the dash out, going to get serviced thursday] see if they can fix it
