How much power will a vp block handle? I've heard 700 reliably and 1000 max? Just trying to figure if we need to go to a common rail block or not. Oh and preferably not hard filled

Well the highest hp vp is around 900 something iirc. And not all 53s are junk if thats your next question.

Ok, are they reliable when you get around 1000 for a sled puller?

What makes them "reliable" at 1000hp? Talking just the block not the rotating assebly. Girdle? Filled? I've never thought of the block being the weak link for cummins guys around 900-1000. It's strong untill a rod flys through the side right? And the rods don't have anything to do with the block strength really.

Preparing your block will dictate any strength increase at all the stress risers present.

EDIT: I should add, stress risers in any part used should be fixed to further any reliability and strength within the engine during operation.

Well not I'm not sure what to think. I was told by a pretty big engine builder that isb blocks can't really do 1000hp and hold. They'll blow the cylinder walls. But sounds like thats not right. Not really sure what to do. Don't wanna spend money I dint need to as already have a block with girdle 14mm head and mains and bored for cam bearings.but I also dint wanna go out and crack it the first pull or something.

Who is this "engine builder" that told you this? There are plenty of 12v heads running on 24v blocks. Maybe there is a reason they run them

I'd rather not say names. And I kinda thought that also but then again I never really checked out any high power rigs to see what block they were running so I didnt know for sure.

Plenty well over 1000 HP no problem . Two without girdle's that I know of not smart but they got a tighter wallet then me.

so not to try to derail this post but I have a complete 24 valve and 12 valve im building my motor this winter but im not shure what one to use or do i use the 24 valve block and 12 valve head.
