getting ready to make either a block swap or a i found an 01 motor to replace my cracked 53. If i do just the block what kind of rebuild kit do i need? just new pistons rings and what else do i need to get?

or is it better to just go with the long block? what kind of electrical problems am i going to have? (my 53 is the classic 99, the new motor is a 01)
will my o-ring head swap over?
just want to get a feel for the problems im sure to run into...

does the 01 engine have the crank sensor boss behind the starter of the drivers side? if not your going to have to get the 01 electronics / harnesses with it or find a way to get your ecm/ pcm reprogrammed to only look at the cam sensor in the timing case... 99's use both cam and crank and 2001 and later just use cam

awesome, thank you i have hear somethings along those lines.
Anybody else?? so should i just go with a long block?

All hard parts will transfer. Only difference is the cam/crank sensor.

The '01 should have the hole in the block for the sensor. It will not have a tone ring on the crank.
