Blown engine control fuse #1

My truck was running fine then just died while i was driving, so i pulled over tried to restart and nothing, my lift pump didn't kick on my gauges didn't cycle and the odometer was flashing on and off. After i got the truck home i started checking fuses and the Engine Control Fuse #1 was blown so i put a new fuse in turned the key on and all my stuff worked for a total of about one second before the fuse blew again. It shows no check engine codes, i check all my grounds and connections to the batteries but that is all. Just looking for some ideas of if anyone knows were to realy start to look at this issue, i've never had any thing like this happen before. O ya i forgot when the key is on and that fuse is out my overdrive light stays on real dim but is on always with the key in the on position and wont turn off with the o/d button

You blew the 50 am Fuse #1, correct? It drives several things. I have the diagrams if you have any more specific questions.

{I just deleted the diagram I posted here. I just noticed you have a 98.5. I have the diagrams for a 01=02. They aint gonig to help}

Blowing a fuse in NOT ground related. Jesus, everytime a truck farts on here everyone says "check the grounds."

Pull the fuse. Use a multimeter in volts mode and find the hot side of it. Then put the multimeter in ohm mode and read the resistance to a good ground on the "not-hot" side. If it is shorted to ground, start wiggling wires until the short is gone. You have a dead short somewhere I think. If it is the 50 A fuse you blew, and a new one lasts only a second, you have a bad short. It may be in the PDC, or down the line.

ok thanks, but its not the 50amp fuse its only the 20amp fuse it has never blown the 50amp fuse, ya evey one always tells me to check the grounds when i have an electrical problem whichy it has never been my answer before.

Did you check the grounds?

:shake: Hee Haw! Heeeee Haw!!!!

If I had the diagrams, I'd help ya more. But I think a multimeter is your tool of chioce here. You've got a rubbed wire somewhere. A hot wire, not a ground. LOL

Ya that's what I was thinking I just can't find one I guess I'll start pulling the loom off

Prick(S)? As in "plural". I was only trying to help. WTH is wrong with you? :hehe:

That was a much better "well put" post than the last one where you called me a "prick". LOL

Current (I) = Volts (V) / Resistance (R).

That is .26 amps. Fuse should not be blowing.

Check it with the key turned on. Maybe the lift pump wire is shorted when you hit start.

That was with the key on, it makes a loud click when i turn the key on, but i can't look under the hood at the same time to see what is making the noise.

Sounds like you need a smart girlfriend to help you. LOL

I got to head out. Keep messing with it. I'll check back tomorrow morning and see if you got it found.

If you had a diagram that showed what all was "down-stream" from that 20A fuse, you could unplug everything then plug things back in one at a time until you popped it. Then you'd at least know which leg of it to chase down.

I'm pretty sure its my lift pump, it started working last night for a little bit and quit blowing fuses, but the pump doesn't make any pressure any more. I think it locked up for some reason thats y it was blowing fuses, then after messing with it yesturday it came loose and worked for a little while then quit again
