Well I just blew my HG lastnight and need advice on what to do... This is my daily driver and need it back on the road asap... I already ordered arp head studs.. I still need to pull it off to find out what condition the head is in.. What head gasket do I need to get?? I will check the head and block, but I really dont have the time to get the head decked.. I was quoted 400 bucks to get the head oringed by a local machine shop.. My mods will be 90hpddp injectors, 62/14 htt turbo or II ps 62/14, 10 plate.. What are yalls suggestions??? Thanks in advance..

IMO take the time to do it right. with the fuel and air in your sig you should really have it ringed and get the head/block checked/surfaced. you won't have to worry about it anymore, or, you'll really be frustrated if you have to do it again.

i have yet to see a 12v B head come off an engine that is not warped in some sort of way, i strongly advise you to get the head resurfaced, and have it thouroughly magnafluxed for cracks, i had a crack that showed up between the #5&#6 exhaust port, it wasn't very big at all, and i decided to reuse the head, got eveything back together, and to have the head start to leak coolant at that crack 2 weeks later, i was a little pissed, but i redid the head, got one from piers when he had them on sale, sooo, that was my lesson learned. good luck with your repair.

If you don't want to have the head surfaced now, its no big deal....You can wait and do it in 5,000 miles when it blows again, and same with the O-rings cause the o-rings aren't much good if they are set in a cockeyed head

Atleast get the head decked, that is only about $40. And get a 12v marine HG and just adjust the coolant passages to line up. And preferably get the head o-ringed.

Ok I plan on having the head checked for cracks and will def have it decked... How much boost and timing will a stock head gasket with arp head studs hold??? Thanks Wesley

Mine held about a 1 1/2 years at 50-55 psi, blew the 1st time i turned on the H20. Go ahead and ring it. it won't cost that much more if the head is already at the machine shop. You won't have to worry about it anymore.

Ok I got the head off lastnight and pulled the valves out... I found a crack in the between the E and I valves on the number one cylinder.... I assume I will need to replace the head.. I think I will go with a head from pure diesel power, they seem to have the lowest price on them... 589 shipped... My question is how are the MLS cometic gaskets holding up??? I know on third gens they are holding up as good as o rings... Thanks

Edit.. I just searched cometic and have seen way too many guys saying its a no go... I guess I will have to o ring it.. Thanks anyways...

I have the first one of Garretts (PDP) built to the hilt ported and polished with all the other stuff cylinder heads. I have been running 50 psi and DDP4s through it for about 7-8 months now, and It has held everything.

PDP has GREAT customer service and are very knowledgable people.

I highly recommend them.

I dont think I need port an polish for what I need from this truck... I will definately have it oringed, and studed... How long did it take to get your head???

Like I said I got the first NEW head. I was the guinea pig for him selling them.

From the time I first talked to him to recieving it, it was a month. But the porting and polishing took over 2 weeks to do.

I know he now stocks a few on his shelf. It only takes him a day or two to get them o-ringed and shipped out.

I would definately get the o-rings and 60# valve springs.

When I did my head I got the new head, stage 2 port and polish, 60# valve springs, 5 angle valve job, backcut valves and a .020 marine gasket.

I already have 60# valve springs so no problem there... This is my daily driver/tow rid... I dont need Port and polish, I will get the 20 over marine gasket though... I wonder if he will cut me a deal if I buy everything from him???

sup wes..... hey man let me know when you get the stuff in and are ready to put her back together. by the way.... get some pics up of that head gasket. People probably want to see it.

Trust me his prices ARE a deal.
When I was looking for a head, I called Scheid diesel and they wanted $1200 for a rebuilt one.

I also had the 60# springs already. I just sent them to him and he installed everything on the head.

Ok got the head ordered today.... I went with Pure diesel's head oringed, and he suggested to have it decked.. I also went with a 20 over marine gasket.. I will clean and assemble it when I get it myself.. I will post some pics of the head when I get it.. I will also post pics of the HG.. :Cheer: Beer was good..
