As the title says, bought a motor on a smokin deal, block is junk.

Seems a standard bore 24v block with standard bore is kinda hard to find...

What other blocks can I use? What does it take? I plan on keepin the VP and putting this motor in my 84 GMC.

But, if anyone knows of a 24v block on standard bore for cheap, let me know!?

Then I would have to relocate the tone ring from the crank to the harmonic damper, correct?

24vriveria was explaining that to me.

Anyone have any pics of doing that?

Depends on what year your computer is. Later years can get away with just cam sensor I believe.

Are you just looking for a replacement block or something else? If so just get a new/used block and swap everything over. The blocks should all be the same. Depending on your location I know of a guy with a good block just setting around I can find out how much he wants for it. If your interested.

Yes, I am interested, just need a good stock bore block.

I'm in Buckeye Arizona.

Good friend of mine works for Rocky Mountain Cummins so I know he can flash the ECM, would anyone know the specifics like ECM part number I'd want to flash it over to so I could just run the cam sensor?

Every VP block I have seen has the hole for the tone ring sensor (not all use it) if that helps. Just have to reuse your crank to have the tone ring.

What year of block? The 01 block I have is identical to the 12v block that I put in the truck.

P-Pump it! Get a 12 valve block used the 24v head and p-pump that thing... Or just fix the 53 block/ if you know a good welder its easy

Not lookin to spend that kinda money on P-pumpin it.

It's been welded to high hell already. New block is necessary.

I just went thru this with buying a block for my blue truck (bought it cracked for a good price)

I found a 2000 long block with under 60k miles from a salvage yard in northern MI for my 98.5.

You can use a 98.5-00 engine. After 01 they changed tone rings.

EDIT: Being this is a swap into a chevy I'm guessing you have other plans for driving a tach. You might be able to just swap anything into there and make it work. Beats me- I don't do conversions.

Try this search engine for salvage yards- car-part.com . I've had great luck using it for rearends/engines ect. You'll just have to search each engine year you can use for the swap individually since they don't interchange engine years like they do with rearends/trannys.

The late 00 also used just cam sensor, if yours has a crank sensor behind the starter you must use a 97-02 block . If its a late cam sensor only then even an old 12v block works but must use 94-98 mounts because the old blocks dont have the rear set of bosses
BUT you cannot mix computers and cam crank combinations

Using a 12v block, 01 6 Speed Harness, ECM reflashed and only running a cam sensor.

Hopefully it'll run when time comes!

They have the spot for the cam sensor and the gear has the tone ring for the sensor
