Pulled the diff cover just to make sure there wasnt anything in there from the broken yoke, ya well found that about 2/3's of the teeth on the ring gear were laying in the bottom. Must of broke the teeth and locked and broek the yoke. What gets me is it all happened so quick, I heard a pop and imeadiatly hit the clutch, you cant even hear it on the video really and it did that much damage.

Those were 2 month old gears, Yukon thick gears.

beaner, ive heard that the after market gears are not as strong as factory dana spicer gears and break and shear teeth alot easier due to being a lil softer

I have no choice cause the dang ARB needed the stupid thicker gears. What kind of moron only makes ARB for a D80 for 3:73 and down? How many 3:73 geared D80's are even out there? I have a perfectly good set of factory gears that I would love to use.

I was talking about in my truck, i know you got my other set of 3.73s i had once. I still wana go to 4.30s

I was standing behind you whan you launched on the last run and could hear and see the teeth popping while it was hooking up mid track. About the time the engine quit popping.

Dang, I know I get tunnel vision but never felt a thing till the end. Still dont understand why it peeled the teeth off like that.

2 words.....BDP POWER

were you running the rail dry? Why was the motor popping like that?

just wondering, sorry about your ring and pinion

That sucks man.. Was busy during the night show, didn't get a chance to see many trucks run til the end of the class.

Isn't there spacers that can be used instead of the thicker gear?

Not on an 80. It is carrier centric, and there is not enough material on the carrier if you put the spacer on to get it to center on the hub. Now I am guessing you could make a spacer that is just enough when you shim it all the way to the other side and might have enough material for the ring gear to sit on.

Spacers are available for 60's.

i'm not going to bash a product, but i've been a drag racer for 20+ years. yukon's are cheap. seen them broken on the track before, i'm wondering where there made? they are a street gear. we don't use our trucks for only street use:evil

It pops against the rev limiter. Dont know why its different then other CR's on the limiter but thats just what it does, rail pressure is 25k+.

If not Yukons then what gear maker would you recomend?

Maybe I missed it, but what gears do you have?

We used a ARB in my Dana 80 with 4:10's with no issues. ARB swaped out the ends from a Dana 60HD or Dana 70HD can't rember which one, and told us to drill the holes out on the ring gear. Worked great.

4:10's Scott, Had to use thick gears because the ARB was only available for 3:73 and down so it has Yukon thick gears.
