What would cause a compressor wheel on a 62mm waste gated schwitzer turbo to be split in half, with no other damage to the turbo?? I will post up some pics later.

I have a 62 in the shop now that belongs to Travis G and his compressor wheel was cracked petty good too.

Only thing IMO that would contribute to this would be barking it too many times. The disruption of airflow really flexes those compressor blades bad.

Here are some pics. The wheel is actually in two pieces.

Take a couple of pics with the broken face in the picture and the back side of the exducer. Interested in seeing that broken grain structure.

dropping it...lol.

Just kidding.

Looks like a casting flaw.

Lets see the grain at the fracture!

you need to find a better host than myspace for postin pix

(tiny)

try photobucket

Judging from the picture the turbo was barked BAD , in consiquence it lost the trust. The compressor moved forward lodged itself into the cover and caused what I believe to be a axial break .

I base this off of the darkened area in the center of the wheel where the shaft is supposed to be.

Thanks for the replies. Now that I look at it more I think your probably right maxtorq. This is a customers truck that has been driven by one of his older employees till just recently. Now a younger kid is driving it and its already lost a clutch and a turbo.

Hey mine doesn't look anywhere near as bad as that one.
