im building a motor for a pulling tractor need some help cant run a turbo i want to put a cummins in it and was wondering if theres a way to and if so could i put flat top pistons in it to make up for the loose of power

No. To my knowledge, all direct injected engines require "Mexican Hat Bowl" pistons to create a swirl to get an effective burn on the diesel. Flat top pistons are for indirect injection engines, and they require a precombustion chamber in the head to swirl the air. Make up for loss of power? What are you going to replace with a Cummins?

If you can't run a turbo, I would try to pick an N/A motor with as many cubes as possible. A 5.9 with no charger is going to suffer a great deal compared to a 466 or some of the N/A v8's out there.

it al depends on your rules. what is the ci limit? what is the weight limit? rpm limit? diesel only?

a 360 cube b series will not stand a chance against a 619bbjd or a big moline in a na class

a engine program like this would benefited more from a cylinder head and cam than anything else. I would use a CR big bowl piston, deck the block and the piston .030 and your compression will get up in the 20 range. The cam profile would be critical, and I know what to do, I’ve done a lot of NA sled pullers cams in small engines. The cam will be nothing like a diesel cam. Give me a call, Ill help you

big bowl = less quench
i agree with the big na engines,
international 9 liters are plentiful and cheap

ya i wish i had one of those! Or at least one i could control the timing on myself!

tell me about it! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
My gf keeps asking me where this tree is i have planted, but i never tell tell her. Lol

I'm thinking a 7.3IDI with a 6.9 crank if limited cubes.

If its unlimited, I would get a 3208cat, or a detroit 2 stroke.

Non re-entrant CR piston in a 12v, why does there need to be an explanation?

i asked about CR pistons in a 12 valve a long time ago. i was told to stick with marine pistons. i cant remember why but there was some discussion on them melting earlyer because of materials blah blah.
