Burning oil on new engine

Had similar issues with my brothers truck. As stated before a heavy trailer and a few long pulls locked in overdrive will help.

Hopefully that will do it, anyone else have more insight on the issue?

Its definitely worn valve guides/seal. I had the same issues. Smoke when you start it up and puffs after long idling are usually the signs of that. Especially if your exhaust ports have oil in them. My worn head was just like that.

Thanks for the input I'll pull it and have everything replaced then I'm running the hell out of this thing!

In my experience if extended idle time and then stabbing the accelerator produces smoke its valve seals. But I'd still hook it to something heavy and make it work, I do that to every tractor and every diesel truck we have that starts burning some oil.
